Summer Camp

2012 Summer Camp Registration Opens February 1st

Camp Scherman is an extraordinary place where all girls (entering grades 2-12) are welcome. Nestled in the San Jacinto Mountains, the 700 acre camp award-winning camp is recognized as one of the finest youth camps in southern California. In the camp’s nurturing, healthy environment, girls can break away from their summer routine and venture into new experiences that help them grow and become more independent and responsible.

On the first day of camp, girls together plan some of their fun group activities including archery, canoeing, hiking, outdoor cooking, backpacking and rock climbing. Camp counselors are ready to lead special activities like swimming, horseback riding (at horse sessions), evening campfires and plan meals.

Camp Scherman’s pristine environment includes a pool and two lakes for exciting water activities. Comfortable accommodations include cabins or platform tents with troop shelters and toilets, as well as a rustic camp site for a more primitive camping experience.

Have a First-time Camper?

Parents and guardians generally know their child best, but sometimes it’s hard to be objective about a girl’s readiness for camp, as well as your own concerns about letting her go for the first time. Have a First-time Camper? Take the Camp Readiness Quiz.

Camp is part of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.

In a safe and fun environment, girls will enjoy planning and helping to lead many of the hands-on activities designed to help them discover more about themselves, connect with others and take action to help make the world better. Leadership experiences are measured by a national system of outcomes for girl leadership development, pioneered by Girl Scouts, including:

  • learning independence and self-reliance in a new environment
  • taking responsibility for herself and her belongings
  • teamwork and helping to plan group activities
  • getting along with other girls in her peer group
  • learning to be offline and unplugged from electronics
  • learning about being green
